The City of West U saw nearly two inches of rain fall during Wednesday’s storm.
The city, as well as the rest of the county, was under a severe thunderstorm and flood warning for most of the day.
Rainfall reports of 1.68 inches were received at a monitoring station at Brays Bayou and Stella Link from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
City Manager Michael Ross said the city did not receive any reports of water in homes or cars and the fire department did not have to make any high water rescues.
Two weeks ago, the city received more than five inches of rain and at least three high-water rescues were made by the fire department.
Ross said today’s storm was “relatively quiet” and is the type of storm that the city’s detention system is designed for.
The city had ponding in the streets for about an hour, which is what is supposed to happen, he said.
The streets are part of the city’s drainage system and act as “mini detention ponds” and will hold water until the storm sewer has additional room to drain the water.
The streets in West U are intended to flood or pond instead of the houses or buildings located along it, he said.
Thursday’s forecast calls for party cloudy skies with a high of 61 degrees. There is a 20 percent chance of rain.
