West University Masonic Lodge No. 1292 installed its new slate of officers on Saturday. Dwight Phillips (wearing hat) will serve as the lodge’s worshipful master for the 2010-2011 year.
Masons from as far away as the Austin area gathered in West U Saturday for the installation of new officers at West University Masonic Lodge No. 1292.
Dwight Phillips was installed as worshipful master to preside over the lodge for the 2010-2011 year.
Phillips previously served as worshipful master of the Bellaire Masonic Lodge in 1997-1998.
Joining Phillips in top officers positions were Alfred Aparicio, senior warden and Gary D. Briscoe, junior warden.
Other lodge officers sworn in included Tom Staton, secretary; James H. Caillouet, treasurer; R. Chris Black, chaplain; William O. Crawford, senior deacon; Stephen E. Menn, junior deacon; Winston Boeker, senior steward; Thomas Whitman, junior steward; Larry Batchelor, marshal, Trey Baker, master of ceremonies and Brannon Jones, tiler.
Past Grand Master of Masons in Texas Brian R. Dodson served as installing officer for the ceremony. Dodson is also a past worshipful master of the Bellaire lodge.
Richard H. Uhr, a past worshipful master of the West University lodge, was the installing marshal.
After taking office, Phillips said Masonry had been one of the constants in his life.
“We sometimes forget about how important those things are that shape our lives,” Phillips said. “Those that have made a difference in my life have been Masons. I can never give back to Masonry all that Masonry’s given me.”
Following the ceremony, Phillips also announced he would be re-establishing the lodge’s family night.
“For many years, we met in the dining room (of the lodge) for refreshment, entertainment, fellowship and general camaraderie. That was held on the fifth Tuesday of any month that had five Tuesdays,” he explained. “This will (start) again on Tuesday, June 29.”
Family night is open to Masons and their families, as well as non-Masons wanting to know more about the Masonic fraternity.
Tuesday’s family night will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the West University Masonic Lodge, 6125 Edloe. The evening will include light refreshments, desserts and a short program.
