Just in time for Christmas and with little fanfare, the new Spec’s store in Weslayan Plaza has opened to serve people in West University Place, Bellaire and the Meyerland areas.
The Spec’s Wine, Spirits and Finer Foods store at Weslayan and Bissonnet Streets opened on Dec. 17, just a couple days after crews finished posting the store’s signage and employees completed setting up about 80 percent of the store’s interior. It was a soft opening.
“We have people coming by every day saying are you open, are you open, are you open?” said Spec’s spokeswoman Lisa Key. “Finally we say ‘yes, come in.’”
Spec’s filled the vacant retail space left by Linens ‘n Things. Key said the company wanted to open the new location weeks ago, but the City of Houston took longer than expected issuing permits for the store.
After the hustle and bustle of the holiday season passes, the company plans to host a formal grand opening. Until then, shoppers will find good deals on those last-minute gifts.
“The stores are filled with reduced pricing, and special packages and holiday gift baskets,” Key said. “Every one of our stores has that.”
