A company that makes H1N1 flu vaccines has recalled 800,000 doses of children’s shots because testing showed the vaccine lost some of its potency.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the recalled vaccine produced by Sanofi Pasteur is not dangerous, it just doesn’t meet federal requirements for the strength of the vaccine. Children who were vaccinated with the shots do not need to be re-vaccinated because the potency is only slightly below the recommended range, the CDC said.
The CDC said parents don’t need to take any action, but Sanofi Pasteur will contact health providers about returning unused vaccines from the affected group.
The company is recalling four production groups of the 0.25 mL pre-filled syringes for babies aged 6 to 36 months. The following lot numbers are being recalled: UT023DA, UT028DA, UT028CB and UT030CA.
